The Study Session ”Voices for Life” will take place from 14th – 21st of May 2017 at the European Youth Centre Budapest, in Hungary. Aim

  • The aim of the study session is to empower actors in the youth field to promote intercultural dialogue and peaceful coexistence in Europe.

Objectives

  • increase knowledge about the current refugee crisis in Europe, its background and impact,
  • reflect on the personal and the organisations´ role and responsibility in being part of crisis´ solution,
  • share good practices of how to promote intercultural understanding and peaceful coexistence,
  • gain skills of facilitating intercultural dialogue between different groups in society,
  • learn about to the work of the council of Europe in relation to Human rights education and the No Hate Speech Movement, and
  • create material to promote intercultural dialogue and peace, to be used beyond the study session.

The study session is facilitated by using non-formal educational methods, where participants will be actively participating in the sessions and discuss their views and experiences on the topic. The sessions include a variety of methods such as study visits, group work and visits of experts. Participant profile We are looking for participants who are:

  • actively involved in their sending organisation as a volunteer or staff member,
  • interested in working on the study session aim and objectives,
  • motivated to develop your knowledge and skills and to share your experiences with other
  • participants,
  • at least 18 years of age, applicants under 30 years old are given priority
  • able to communicate in English and
  • able to attend for the full duration of the course.
  • No previous international experience is needed for participation.

Practical information This study session is arranged by Rural Youth Europe and NSU (Nordic Youth Associations) with the support of Council of Europe at the European Youth Centre in Budapest, Hungary. The in total 40 places are shared by participants and team members of Rural Youth Europe and NSU and therefore will each member organisation of Rural Youth Europe gets 1-2 places. The preparatory team will select participants on the basis of the profile outlined above, ensuring a balanced group (gender, geographical regions, different types of experiences, cultural backgrounds and organisations). Applicants will be informed about the selection decision at the beginning of April. Arrival in on Sunday 14th of May 2017, (preferable no later than 18:00). Departure on Sunday 21st of May 2017, (preferably after 9:00). Accommodation and meals will be provided and paid for by the Council of Europe at the European Youth Centre Budapest. The participants may need to share rooms. An enrolment fee of 50 euros should be paid by all participants to the Council of Europe. This amount will be deducted from the amount to be reimbursed for travel expenses or paid at the European Youth Centre Budapest during the course. Travel expenses and visa fees are reimbursed to 100% based on presentation of the relevant receipts according to the rules of the Council of Europe. Only the participants who attend the entire study session can be reimbursed. The payment will be made either by bank transfer after the course, or at the end of the course in cash (in euros). Participants are asked to use the cheapest transportation possible. More information about the travel conditions will be sent with the acceptance letter to participants. Participants are responsible for arranging suitable insurance coverage (travel + medical, and in addition E111 for EU citizens) for themselves.
